Different Horse Racing Bets: Understand Them All

|

Horse racing is undoubtedly one of the best sports offering betting options. It has been in the gambling world for a long time, making it the poster game for sports betting even today. Although other sports’ popularity has resulted in increased traction over betting opportunities, horse racing remains the top priority for the ardent fans. However, the newbies may find it hard to understand the concept of this sport and its bets. Unless you learn all the terminologies involved, wagering on a particular horse can be a bit of a risk. The learning process could be strenuous if you don’t put in the effort to understand the concept of the bets. Grasping the language and its grammar requires quite some time; so, you need to look into each bet in detail before foraying into this field. Let us look at some basic terms and aspects of horse racing bets.

Straight Bets

These are the conventional betting options offered in almost every sport, making them straightforward enough to learn.

·         Win Bet

Cashing a ticket with this bet is only possible when the horse you wagered on crosses the finish line first. This is the most common and simplest bet among all the others offered in horse racing.

·         Place Bet

In this bet, you win when your horse finished first or second.

·         Show Bet

When you place a show bet, you win only if your horse finishes in the first three positions.

Exotic Bets

Exotic bets essentially require a prediction of the exact order of finish of a race or the race to race parlays, which is between two and six races. The two types of exotic bets are horizontal wagers and vertical wagers.

·         Horizontal Exotic Bets

The five horizontal bets are a daily bonus, pick 3, pick 4, pick 5, and pick 6. In daily double, you need to choose the winner of two consecutive races to win the money. Pick 3 is a three-race parlay in which you must predict the winner of three races in a row. Similarly, in pick 4, pick 5, and pick 6, you must choose winners in four, five, and six consecutive races.

·         Vertical Exotic Bets

The correct finishing order has to be selected in vertical wagers. In the exacta type, the first two positions must be predicted in order, and in a trifecta, the first three finishers have to be chosen to wager on. The first four finishers are to be identified in the superfecta wager.

·         Boxing Exotic Bets

This can be opted for as an alternative to the other bets in horse racing. Boxes cannot be considered a type of bet; instead, they are a strategy within multiple bets. The types of vertical bets can either be straight or boxed. With the straight vertical bets, you must predict the exact order of finish, whereas, in boxed bets, the chosen horses only need to finish the race in the first two, three, or four positions. You need not mention the horse and the position when making boxed bets; only the horses need to be selected and wagered on.
